NWR: non AKC registered puppies

Jess there is the ACA - American Canine Association which I believe our chiba is thru - theres a bunch acutally - i think u can even register thru breed kennel clubs - my family westie is registered with the AKC and i believe a westie club too

thanks lindsay! I was told you can only register your dog with the AKC if both parents are AKC registered dogs. We found a puppy we really like and I'm nervous because i didn't recognize the registration/club the puppies were registered with

who are they registered with? I can ask FH he used to work for a vet for a number of years and knows alot about it this subject

It's a havanese! We snuck a picture, I'll try to post it. I think it was the american puppy registry or something along those lines. I can't remember what she said! I'm going to call on tuesday because I want to do some research

Looks like a puppy store.. I would run far away if I was you. Go through a breeder save yourself money and heartache.. You will also help dogs in general by not supporting puppymills. That dog is a puppymill dog dont believe them if they tell you otherwise. Im in the pet industry and you wouldnt believe some of the stories ive heard about puppy stores.. My friend used to manage puppy depot, its such a crap hole.. i cant believe there even legally in operation.

Is that store in Smithtown by chance?

Call the AKC they will give you the names of breeders in the area. Your so much better off. Puppy store dogs are harder to housebreak.. breeder dogs have already started paper or wee wee pad training..

nope, it's not in smithtown. I was told to stay away from puppy stores too but I've tried contacting breeders, I've even tried putting my name on rescue lists but we want a havanese and there are so few havanese breeders and the ones that I did find are too far away or currently don't have litters and don't know when they will. It has been so frustrating

There are none in the area, I think the closest one was vermont and I tried contacting them and they were not breeding at the time or something like that. I've been researching for a really long time. If you know of another way to find a havanese breeder in the new york area, I'd appreciate it, but my searches have been unsuccessful.

No it was on a breeder website boasting they register with the AKC.. i looked into it a little more and deleted my post once i discovered they were not breeders but infact a store.. looks shady..
