NWR: NYC teaching application

I am in need of some help with the NYC teaching application. i have already registered and applied to NYC DOE for a position. Now I have another certification and would like to be considered for this new certification as well. I updated my certification information but on the main page it says “Which type of the following positions are you applying for?” “(Depending on your answer, you will receive different application questions.) “ I have already put Guidance Counselor and it doesn’t allow me to input teacher as well.

Any one have any advice??

Your best best is to call the DOE it may be a pain in the *** but they might have a better idea. Also if you are trying to get a job in the city, your best bet is to contact each school that you like individually, and send them your resume.

Either apply again or I'm not sure if this is possible (I filled out the NYCDOE app. about 2 months ago so I don't remember). Can you hold down the CNTRL key and select more than one?

Good luck. Job applications are such a pain in @ss!

you should also mail resumes to city schools of your choice for either position. a lot of principals prefer to hire this way (still).

hth and good luck!

It's weird it doesn't even let me have the option to change it ..let alone hold down control!

i am definitely going to call the NYC DOE human resources tomorrow. b/c they seem like the only department that picks up the phone.

Thank you

Re: NWR: NYC teaching application

Besides calling each school and mailing a resume, what helped me to get a foot in the door was actually going to each school in my district to hand in my resume in person over the summer. By August, most vacancies have already been filled, so July is best. Also, some schools are open for summer school (beg of July to mid-Aug), meaning the principal or AP may be in and you can sometimes speak to them and have a quick impromptu face-to-face when giving them your resume. That's what I did with the principal who hired me. Quite honestly, he was very abrupt with me on that day, and I didn't think I had a chance in hell. Yet, he called me back a few wks later for a formal interview, sent me down to the district office right afterward, and I was hired that day. It's not an easy process, and it may be worth a trip to your district office to speak with someone in person if the phones are no help.

Good luck!!!!!!!!

I just reread your post and if I'm understanding you correctly, the website won't let you choose which position you want? I'm thinking maybe you have to change which certification you'll be working under if hired.

I don't want to sound too wordy here, but here's what I'm thinking: The DOE only allows you to teach under one license, even if you hold more than one. Which means when you apply for a position, you have to choose which license you'll work under for that position. For instance, I have certification in Early Childhood (Pre-K-Grade 2), Common Branches Elementary Education (K-6), and Secondary Education English (7-12). I currently teach 3rd grade, so I'm working under my 'Common Branches' license in Elementary Ed. If I wanted to teach Pre-K, I'd have to apply under the Early Childhood license.

Is the website not allowing you to change the license for the position you want? Can you change the info, log off and log in again with the new license to apply for the new position? I wish I could help you, because I know how frustrating this can get!!!
