FH and I moved into the apartment from HELL - We live in a two family home on the first floor.
The woman above us is a stripper and goes to work at 12:00 am and comes home at 5 am and wakes us up with her heels on the floor.
She is unapproachable, but does anyone know if there are any laws that I can leverage against this? Is it possible for the landlord to say somethign to her?
This apt. is LESS than ideal for the place that I have to live in while planning a wedding

Re: NWR: Odd Question
I know in MD that there is a law that you have to have 80% of an apartment capeted if there is someone living below you. I don't know if that law exists in NY, but it is worth looking in to.

Re: NWR: Odd Question
When FH and I were looking into an apt it was located upstairs (it was in a 2 story building complex) and we were required to put down carpeting. I don't know how it is for a house... apartments in homes are tricky. I would just speak with the landlord.

Re: NWR: Odd Question
Any apartment I ever lived in I was always told to be quiet/watch my shoes on the floor. It's common and your landlord should mention it to her.

I feel your pain as I live in a basement apt too.
Def take it up w/ your landlord. OR tell the ho to use the back door - I am sure she's used to it anyway! JK

Talk to you landlord. He is the one that should handle this situation.

Re: NWR: Odd Question
The 80% carpet law is applicable in NY as well. That was the first thing our super told us when we moved in, and your landlord can easily enforce it if she doesnt comply.

Thank you for all your advice. Hopefully we can talk to our landlord and get this resolved.

I wish I would have know about that law a year ago! Our landlord lives upstairs and its like elephants on parade every night, luckily our lease is up in another month or 2 and we'll be looking for somewhere else

Re: NWR: Odd Question
Buy her some fuzzy pink slippers from Victoria Secrets..
My sister in-law is a bartender at a strip club and her shoes make my dog bark in the mornings when she comes home.. I bought her the most sexist, prettiest and fuzziest slippers I could from Victoria's and she loves them some much she puts them on as soon as she gets home...

Re: NWR: Odd Question
I think that you should talk to her and say that you and fh are on a really early schedule and need your sleep...you can be nice about it...she probably doiesn't know that she is making so much noise... she may be cool about it...i would rather have someone come to me with a problem first before going to the landlord.
