NWR Pet Insurance

Does anyone have it? FH just switched jobs and is able to get it through his new job hahaha
I used to have it for my pup for a year but then the year was up and I hadn't used it... does anyone have it and actually use it??? I know it will help out if g-d forbid something big happens, but what about the little things like check ups and shots.. does it help out with that at all??

Re: NWR Pet Insurance

It would have been EXTREMELY beneficial if we had pet insurance for our Coco before he got sick and passed away. Since we didn't have insurance, we paid literally THOUSANDS and thousands of dollars for his many tests and treatment.

So because of that, we said we'd get a plan for our other doggie, in case something ever happens to her. Thanks for the reminder - another thing I need to remember to do!

Re: NWR Pet Insurance

I used to work at an Animal Emergency Center so I have dealt with this before. I dont know if it covers routine check ups and shots like that, so a lot of times you end up getting pet insurance and you never end up using it. And it does cover a lot of big problems, (as long as their not pre-existing) but not all...like I know it doesnt cover cancer treatment. Also, the way pet insurance works is you have to pay your bill upfront and they reimburse you. We always told people who asked that they shouldnt get it, and instead, set up a savings specifically for your pet and put a few bucks away in there every month. So that way, if your pet never has a problem, you dont lose all that money that you would have through insurance.
I mean, in a lot of cases it pays off to have insurance, but in many cases it doesnt.

That's weird - we looked into a pet insurance plan that said it DID cover cancer treatment. Our vet's office told us that there are SO many different kinds of pet insurance that you should really look into it before choosing - they all have different things they cover or don't.

Re: NWR Pet Insurance

Well, we dealt with two types all the time at work. One of them was VPI, and i cant remember the name of the second one. I do agree though that there are a lot of different insurances out there so I dont doubt that some of them do cover cancer. I just know that we never got pet insurance forms for people who were coming in to see our oncologist. But it could have even changed...I dont know...

Re: NWR Pet Insurance

well im not sure if you remember my post in july that we lost our 8 month old kitten to FIP...we did have Pet Insurance and while we are in the middle of trying to get back some money it is definately worth it!!! They are just asking for doctors notes to make sure that what Leo had was not a 'pre determined' disease...
but back to my point... its definately worth it and I have it on my kitties now as well!

thanks guys!!! I will have to look into what it covers but I think it might be worth it... It's just so funny that FH gets it through work! We still have to pay for it... a lot... but it is pretty funny when he asked me if I wanted a dental plan and pet insurance... I was like..what!???

That's weird I have VPI insurance and I have full cancer coverage for my dog. It also covers a certain percent of your office visits, shots, and medications. I would say whenever I go to the vet and submit a claim for to VPI I get about half my money back each time. I guess it depends on the plan you choose.

Re: NWR Pet Insurance

There's one through Petco that just covers emergencies such as surgery or getting hit by a car. I'm considering it.
