NWR: Please be careful!
Hi ladies - this actually has nothing to do with weddings, but I'm SO spooked right now that I just wanted to share a warning with you...
About an hour ago my brother knocked on my door and asked to check my alarm keypad (I live in a joined, but separate apartment). I let him in & he was obviously 1/2 asleep & telling the person on the phone that no, the house alarm wasn't going off & that the keypads in the 2 separate zones looked fine. After he got off the phone he kind of woke up & realized that something was 'off.' 1) The caller asked for him specifically and 2) never asked for his code word (it's used to indicate that everything is ok/safe when they call) & 3) the alarm wasn't even SET for the night yet. It was also REALLY fishy because whenever we've had a false alarm in the past they've never asked for us by name, we need to tell them AND the 1st thing out of their mouths before even asking that is 'what is the password??' So we called our alarm company afterwards & it turns out that they NEVER called us. Apparently somebody looked up my brother's # (& address!) in the phonebook and called him randomly - the alarm company feels that if we had said 'We don't even have an alarm!' that we would have been robbed sometime in the next few days. We called the cops afterwards just to give them the heads-up & they agreed with the alarm company. Unfortunately there's nothing that can really be done, but at least they know that someone is trying to pull that crap in this area
Anyways, my point is PLEASE be careful!! If you ever get a call like this & you don't have an alarm, LIE and say 'that's funny - it isn't going off right now' so that they think that you do & they move on/leave you alone. I almost think that they call this late in the day hoping to catch the person 1/2 asleep so that they slip up, but please be careful & try not to slip up! Be safe!
