NWR: Poor baby bird

NWR: Poor baby bird

I'm sorry I just need to vent a little because I'm really sad. I just saw a baby bird die right in front of me on the street in NYC and it really upset me I cried all the way back to my office on the phone to FH.

It landed on the side of the street a few feet from me on the curb and it was definitely a baby and it feel from trying to fly, I'm guessing from the nearest tree. I was trying to figure out what/if anything I should do. I felt like I should bring it to the tree, but I was afraid it could have disease and I've also heard the mother birds reject them if they babies smell like humans. Before I could make up my mind a limo drove by and squished him.

Would you have picked it up? I don't think there was much I could do, its just sad I guess but I am feeling guilty.

I just need a hug.

That would make me cry too.... that's really really sad. You couldn't do anything though, unless you know about birds and feeding babies or knew where to bring the bird. Once you touch it, the mother rejects it. AND! I was told to never touch a baby bird because of the germs and what it if bites you? I mean, it eats worms.... I'm sorry you had to see that!

Thanks, Kristen. That seriously makes me feel alot better. All of that is what was going through my head and how I've been trying to justify myself but it feels better to hear someone else say it.

Awwww.... I'm a big animal lover and that would have been very difficult for me to watch. There really was nothing for you to do. Ugh, so terrible. **Hugs**

I would be terribly upset too. I probably would have picked it up because I didn't know better until just now.

I would have tried to move it with something and not my hands. But by the time I would find anything I bet I would be too late as well. It's hard seeing an animal get hit by a car. I was traumatized for a few days after seeing a dog get hit and die.

So sorry you had to see that, but its not your fault.
