NWR: Prenatals

NWR: Prenatals

So, I had the baby discussion with my obgyn. Since I plan on coming off the pill after my HM, and letting things happen when they want, she strongly urged me to start taking prenatals. Now, I am all for this. If it helps with things for the future, than I don't mind. BUT HOLY $h1TTTTTTT this one pill is making me feel sick.
She gave some samples of prenatals to try, and the first set is fierce!!!!! Is that normal? Is it b.c of the iron? Did anyone ever take prenatals and experience a weird feeling??

Yep, I heard the same thing. A girl I work with was having a tough time taking them - they would make her feel sick. I think it helps if you take them with food - like any vitamin. Good luck! I'm not looking forward to that!

are you taking prescription pre-natals already, or OTC prenatals? the OTC ones are easier on the stomach. when we were just trying, my doctor said to take the OTC ones until we actually conceived. i took those w/ a meal and was OK. once we got pregnant, and i started taking the prescription ones, my stomach wanted to beat me up! i've been taking them for 7 months now, and i take them at night before i go to bed. it's the only way my stomach can handle them.

ETA: if you take ones that have the DHA pill, def take them before bed, otherwise you'll be burping up fish oil all day, and that is NOT pleasant.

I am taking over the counter prenatal vitamins now and at first they were a little irritating to my stomach but I quickly got over it like after a week. I am taking them because my mom told me that i should get my body into good shape for when i have kids (haha doesn't she know that will be a while from now) and the vitamins are supposed to help thicken your hair and make it shiny and healthy.

yeah that is absolutely normal! Definetely take it with food... also... if 1 makes you really nauseous, it might help to change to another one. I'm a pharmacist so i know that a LOT of people complain about that and sometimes its as simple as switching to a different prenatal! Good luck :)

She gave me prescrip. ones to try, and I have to report back to her on which one works for me, if anything, she said she can let me try until I find one that won't make me sick.

I did hear you should start taking them a year before TTC - it doesn't hurt but can make you sick

Yes, I would feel sick all the time from prenatals. Make sure you EAT with them. Usually if I ate with them, I was fine...but if I didn't, holy cr ap i felt horrible!!!

Sandra, Im glad you brought this up. I never knew you should start taking them before you get pregnant. Then again, I dont go on regular visits to the obgyn (like I really should). I mean the last time I went was like a year ago but at that time, I was not talking about babies at all. Sorry I dont know squat about them, lol but just wanted to say thanks. Hope it gets better!
