so i just went to Sterling Optical and saw a pair of Coach sunglasses i like and they told me $353 with rx lenses. i happen to go on Coach's website and find the same frames for $148 where Sterling was charging roughly $250+ for the frames.
has anyone bought sunglass frames and brought them into an optical place to have RX lenses put in? i can't see why you couldn't do that considering they're selling the same exact thing and will do it.
is one place better than another? has anyone bought frames from a discount place online?
it kills me to drop this much on a pair of sunglasses but i seriously need a pair and they are all expensive. sh*t, i loved a pair of Roberto Cavalli's that were $500 just for the frames but decided on the cheapos
any help is appreciated :D. btw, no insurance, just discount plan that isn't seem to be helping me anyway

Re: NWR: Prescription Sunglasses
I am pretty sure that if they are plastic frames they can not change the lenses. I feel like I was told this a few summers ago.
Let me know the final result, I am interested!

Actually, I think you can. FH bought a pair of Nike glasses online and then brought them to like Lenscrafters or one of those places so he could get prescription lenses put in them. They aren't sunglasses, but I don't see why it would be any different.

Re: NWR: Prescription Sunglasses
I just bought my perscription sunglasses. I bought the frames with them (Anne Klein) and they were pretty pricey. However, they told me if I had a pair of frames that I wanted to use they would put the lenses in for me. However, with my insurance it was actually cheaper to buy frame and lenses than it was to just buy the lenses and have them put it in. :( So its okay, I still have my coach sunglasses for when I can wear my contacts again.
BTW I used Pearle Vision.

Re: NWR: Prescription Sunglasses
I went to Davis vision just yesterday to order a pair of RX sunglasses. I love the shape and fit of the guess glasses so i just bought them there BUT the sales person did tell me that if i have a frame that i like that they dont have I can bring it there and just order the lenses from them. They said they have to make the lenses seperatly and cut them anyway
BTW: I also only have a discount plan not full insurance coverage

Re: NWR: Prescription Sunglasses
just wondering if i'm going to save anything by purchasing the frames through Coach (about $100 plus is saved right there) and then adding the lenses in (that's where i'm not sure about the cost) or just buying it direct from eyeglass place
i'm just so mad that these guys marked the frames up THAT much

Re: NWR: Prescription Sunglasses
I have done this with old sunglasses. I had old gucci plastic frames that I didnt wear as much and brought them to the optical store across from my office and had them made into perscription.
I dont remember how much it cost me bc it was a few years ago, but it was well worth it.

Re: NWR: Prescription Sunglasses
Yup, you can totally do this! I did the same thing... found a pair of Fendi sunglasses I loved in a store, ordered it online for half price, and then brought it in to get the prescription lenses done. Actually I did this twice because I lost the first pair Good luck!

Re: NWR: Prescription Sunglasses
You should buy the frames and lenses together. This way if they damage the frames when putting the lenses in, they are responsible for replacing it. $350 is actually pretty reasonable for Rx Coach sunglasses.
