NWR: Queens girls... traffic quest.?

I am from Eastern Suffolk so I am not used to city traffic at all. The thought of driving west of the Nassau border freaks me out. But how heavy is the traffic around Citi Field/Grand Central Pkwy. around 8pm-midnight-ish on a weeknight.??

Thanks.

ETA: Or how difficult is it to get to the Shea stop off the LIRR (it's called Mets-Willets Point now). I am not a Subway girl either.

Now that it's baseball season, if it's a day where the Mets are home, you will be hitting some significant traffic before the game (and into the first inning) and as the game is ending. Evening home games start earlier than you're asking about (first pitch is at 7:10) so you may just miss the rush of traffic.

The LIRR will take you right there, but it's a Port Washington branch...it doesn't go further than that on the island. If you're taking the LIRR in to get to the stadium, I think you may have to take it to Woodside and then transfer to an Eastbound train for Willets Point - not 100% sure on that, maybe someone can clarify?

Its pretty tough getting around when there is a game but when DH and I drive back from LI on the weeknights its pretty easy if there is no game. The Grand central is pretty dead at that time.

if you do take the LIRR, just follow the crowd. it is right there...well maybe a block or two in length, but just because the walkways are so long.
