NWR: Question for Teachers

Hi All,

This is a question on behalf of my DH. We've been trying to get a straight answer about this and haven't been able to...so I figured why not try LIW!

DH wants to go back to school to become a HS Social Studies teacher. Does he have to take any standardized tests to apply? We've read about the LAST exam, but I'm not sure if he needs to take that before he applies or while he's in the program. What about the GREs?

Any help is appreciated!

TIA!

It depends on what college you apply to if you need GREs. You would take the LAST, CTS and ATS-W (if you need it) while you were doing coursework.

I've never heard of taking the GRE to get into a master's program for education. None of the colleges I know of require it.

I'm a career change student @ St. John's. I used to be an event coordinator & am now getting my masters in elem ed. I did not have to take the GRE but did take the LAST, ATSW & CST to become cert in NYS. I would advise your DH to get into a program like mine b/c once you pass a certain amount of credits, pass all your NYS tests, get finger printed and take the anti violence & abuse classes, you can start working. Its as if your going to be paid for your student teaching. If you have any further ques pls feel free to FM me.

Re: NWR: Question for Teachers

I attend Queens College for my Masters. I didn't have to take a GRE. I had to write an entrance essay, have letters of recommendation, and have a 3.0 GPA. You need to take the LAST and ATS-W. Once you are towards the end of the program, you take the CST in regards to the area of study. Make sure that you obtain the OSPRA-103. This is the form for fingerprinting. Also, make sure violence prevention and child abuse seminars are complete..
