My dog has TERRIBLE breath. We don't feed her junk, she eats only purina lamb and rice formula, and we have tried greenies and yip yaps to no avail. She loves both but they do not help her breath :) I am going to try to give her a basil leaf (she will eat anything) but does anyone have any other suggestions?

I have the same problem with my pup!!! My grandma recommended taking a damp wash cloth, putting some baking soda on it, and srubbing her teeth (wrapping the wash cloth around your finger). I just tried it today for the first time so I can't tell you if it works yet (It def takes more than a day) but she swears by it!!

I buy my dog breath mints. They sell them at Petco and they come in a blue tin. They're called Yip Yaps. They work!

Your dog may have some kind of stomach or tooth problems that may not be bothering her at all but have a bad effect on her breath. You should ask your vet next time you bring her in - my dog had terrible breath and it turned out she had some kind of an intestinal thing going on. We gave her some antibiotics and it got wayyy better. Don't want to scare you because it's probably nothing she could even feel - or she may just be stinky

Re: NWR: Remedies for stinky dog breath
Thanks ladies. I have tried the yip yaps, they do not work (although she loves them). And it may be thta she has an issue with her tummy -- well, I know she does now, because since Fri AM she has been very ill ... :( So the bad breath is taking a backseat to the sickness problem. She's had diarrhea for days but otherwise seems very happy. I am at work now but will check her at lunch and hopefully be able to get a sample to bring to the vet. (I want her to go again so that I can get a sample but I really don't want her to go, you know???) My living room is covered in newspaper in case she can't hold it in .....
