NWR repost: Dog ownership

I need your help girls...

So my friend bought a dog with her then bf but he has since moved out and is a complete d o u c h e. She took the dog to the vet today and tried to have the dogs ownership put in her name but they said that they would need written permission from him. But, she also had the dog registered with AKC (?) and the dog is in both of their names. Is there any way she could get someone to change the ownership into her name?? She basically wants her ex completely out of her life and she is afraid that if she asks him for permission, he will fight for the dog. When he moved out he said she could keep him but shes afraid he will try and get the dog out of spite. Any suggestions??

All dogs in NYS are licensed with the Department of Agriculture and Markets (except in NYC, where they are registered with the Dept. of Health.)

You can try and contact them and have the license put in your name and then take that to the vet. Definitely mention how the dog lives with you and you support all of its needs.
