NWR: Rome hotel recommendation? Anyone?

We are flying out a night b4 our Mediterranean cruise & I'm looking for a good hotel in Rome that isn't crazy $$$$ & one that is convenient to sites, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

My head is spinning w/ all the reviews on tripadvisor & venere.com
