NWR: Sad day for ASJ

NWR: Sad day for ASJ

I found out today that my high school (which is actually pre-k to 12th grade), the Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood is closing down at the end of this school year. The sisters who run the school have said they don't have the finances to keep it up and running. It is so sad because the school is so historic. It's been in existence for probably hundreds of years now. I also have so many wonderful memories there. The girls I went to school with were and some are still like sisters to me (there were only 44 in my graduating class). I also feel terrible for all the current students that are going to have to leave and the entire staff that will lose their jobs. I loved my teachers there.

There was a meeting held last night at the school with hundreds of people including teachers, parents, students, and alum (from what I heard). They tried to convince the sisters to keep the school running but they just didn't seem interested in anyone helping them. People were even offering to help continue to support them financially. But as the woman who told me about the school closing said, 'everyones' pleas to keep the school open fell on deaf ears.'

It's such a shame

-Kathryn (2002 ASJ alum)

BTW - Any other ASJ alum out there? How do you feel about this news?

I'm not sure about that. I know people did everything they could to keep it open but there was no support from the other side. My brother went to St. Anthony's! But he was a 1992 grad lol

BTW, wanna hear something funny? I posted this on the BHB board and a girl I used to ride the bus with going to ASJ responded to it! Small world!

Thats so sad. The Catholic School i went to for 9 years (it was a K-8 school) closed about 3 years after I graduated. Its sad when you cant go back and visit your old teachers.

What's scary is that I still remember that place very vividly. The basement and then dancing on top of the bleachers on the side of the gym, was it lol.
