NWR: Salary Asking During Interview???

NWR: Salary Asking During Interview???

Okay, I know this is completely off the topic but today I went for an interview and I'm about 98% sure I got the job!

While there, they discussed the company's policies and my job duties, etc....The man interviewing me asked when I would be able to start and I told him. Then the receptionist proceeded to give me W2 forms, company policy acceptance forms, direct deposit forms, etc...

I'm a little confused....they never discussed the salary so I was thinking in my head whether I should ask them and what was the correct 'etiquette' in finding out the salary. In the forms I filled out, I filled out a background check and reference form. I don't whether they are formally waiting until I they receive my background check back/references or what?

What do you ladies think? Ever been in this situation?

It sounds like you have the job. I would definitely ask what you can expect in terms of salary.

If you filled out the forms it sounds like as long as everything comes back good you will get the job...you can always ask about $$ when they formaly ask you..that would be the best time when they ask if you have any additional questions (and it hasn't been mentioned)

Most jobs don't negotiate a salary until they offer you the position.

Once you get to the background check, you're pretty much offered the position. Especially based on what you wrote. Unfortunately, not all companies put their offer in writing.

I think you should revert back, ask them what kind compensation package they are offering (benefits, etc and when you are eligible for benefits). This is something you want to know before you open the flood gates to your life. If its not what you're willing to accept, you can let them know. They will appreciate it, trust me. From your stand point, I wouldn't want to give my SS# out to various companies unless it was a serious query.

I guess all companies are different but a lot of them will give you an offer pending the result of the backround check. I know some will give an offer after. Either way negotiate higher! No employer goes at a potential employee at the top rate they are willing to pay! Good luck! let us know what happens

I agree with this - once they give a formal offer I would ask about salary and benefits.

Yup, usually the background check and in some cases a drug check is the last thing before the offer if official. It sounds like you got the job so congrats Hope the salary is what you want it to be!

I would call and ask. What if you go threw the whole process of filling out forms, etc and then the pay isn't want you want?

Call and ask salary. Filling out background forms and W-9 in and of itself doesn't mean you have the job, at my firm all job applicants had to get cleared first before formally continuing w/ the hiring process.

Etiquette is not to ask, until they ask you what you are looking for in terms of $$.

If you go on a second interview, they should ask you at that point. I don't understand how they can offer you a job, when they don't know how much you are looking to get paid...

I definitely think you should have asked the receptionist, why you need to fill out the W2... it has your SS # and everything, right?

I wish you the best of luck, I hope you get the job and the salary you are looking for. At this point, I would try to get as much as possible, go up 5k from your previous position... and negotiate. You're worth it.
