NWR: Salons for long hair?

I'm really tempted to go get my hair highlighted and cut in a new way..basically my hair has always been the same. I hate when you go somewhere tho and they cut your hair short. Any good salons in Nassau that won't give me the newleywed chop?
Also, who would you recommend there for color, etc?

i use illusions in new hyde park. my hair is on avearge below my bra strap to just touching my butt.
whenever i say trim, they keep to their word and cut about 2 inches off. they always ask me before they cut more and it is only usually because they see that my hair is very dead!
