I want to make sausage and peppers for dinner tonight but have never made it before. Anyone have any recipes they just love and care to share?? If not, want to help me figure out where to start...what kind of sausage is best to use? haha. (I don't even know that much!) I saw johnsonville sausage on sale for 2.99 a package. Much cheaper than 3.99 a pound for hot sausage!!! Maybe the johnsonville is junk but I have no idea! hahahahaha!!

Re: NWR: Sausage and Peppers.
I usually get the supermarket brand either sweet or hot italian sausage (FH and I like the hot better and it isn't that hot). Anyway, I take the sausage and put a thin layer of water in the bottom of a frying pan. I cook the sausage in the water until it is gone and then let the sausage brown until the outside of it is browned. I then take the sausage out of the pan and cut it into slices. I throw that back in and let the thin slices cook through. I also throw in sliced onions when I put the sausage back in. Once that has all cooked through I put in sliced peppers. Once I feel those have cooked through a bit I put in half a large can of crushed tomatoes.
FM me if you have any questions.

Re: NWR: Sausage and Peppers.
I would use Premio( I think that's how you spell it) sausage. I usually just use 2 packs of that (or I get it from Costco) 12 links if from the grocery store and 6 if from costco(they're bigger). Boil water add sausage and par cook about 10 minutes. 1 or 2 red pepper 1 or 2 green pepper and 1 or 2 onion(depending on size and taste) slightly cook on stove top until soft with a crunch, but not too soft because they will continue to cook in the oven. Take one can hunt's tomato sauce or italian dressing(that's FH's thing LOL) Mix ingredients, cook in oven on 350 for about 30-45 minutes and viola Dinner!

Re: NWR: Sausage and Peppers.
FH makes the best sausage and peppers. Here's how he does it....
I usually buy the Premio. 1 package of the round links is usually enough for both of us - I like the flavored ones - they have a pepper and mushroom flavor or basil and cheese - those are my fav. 1 red pepper, 1 green pepper, 1 yellow pepper and 1 medium onion.
Cut the sausage into smaller pieces...Fry the sausage with olive oil until it's all crispy. While it's cooking, in another pan, coat with olive oil and saute peppers and onions (we use sweet onions) with salt and garlic powder. Once the veggies get soft, add a few tsp's of sugar (this carmelizes the veggies). Once the sausage is cooked to the desired crispness and the peppers/onions are cooked to your liking, add the peppers and onions to the fry pan with the sausage and cook a few more minutes so that all the flavors mix together. I usually make Lipton (actually I think it's Knorrs now) Garlic and Herb rice with this and serve it on top. DELICIOUS...it's my favorite meal :)

Re: NWR: Sausage and Peppers.
If you want to make it a little healthier, I use Jenny-O Italian seasoned turkey sausage. It tastes exactly like regular sausage with half the fat! You would never know the difference. I usually cook it like most of the above posts, cut it into round pieces, brown in a little olive oil with garlic, sautee the peppers and onions separately with some oil, garlic, oregano and basil. Then put it all in one pan and cook it, I add a little bit (2 tbsp) of marinara at this point too to give it some extra flavor!

Re: NWR: Sausage and Peppers.
I go to the butcher & get Italian (Cheese & Basil) pin wheel (you could also get hot & mix them.). Then i take them & put it in the frying pan to brown them & mak ethem a little crispy. As im browning. I take the peppers (red Yellow Green - i like a mix), onion add olive oil with salt pepper garlic powder & oregano to taste. Put them in the oven checking every so often to see if the peppers are getting soft when they are, throw in your sausage (juice and all) right into the pan with the peppers & onion. Obviously i make mine white not in red. I like it better. Sometimes i even throw potato in with peppers & onion. Yum. If you do that make sure you microwave the potato first until slightly soft then cut in cubes & add them in and bake until everything (peppers & potato)are soft!
GOOD LUCK!
