NWR: School Districts

Hi Girls,

So I needed a little help and imput from you guys. My FH and I are looking into neighborhoods to buy a house on LI and it seems like everyone has their own opinions as to what are good neighborhoods and school districts. Does anyone who good places to look into that have good schools and are reasonable. I aren't too particular about Nassau or suffolk.

thanks!

well I grew up in lynbrook which is one of the best SD's in teh country but the taxes are insane. stay away from incorporated villages bc you have to pay additional village taxes.

bellmore seemed nice and reasonable.

Plainview/Old Bethpage is one of the top school districts on long island.......if I could afford the taxes, I would buy a house here lol

also great is Syosset and Rockville Centre...(these are just a few that I know)

This site may be of some help - its just a basic directory of all the LI school districts w/ some basic stats like graduation rates, expenditures, faculty sizes, etc.

http://www.longislandschools.com/long-island-school-districts.aspx

With that said, theres going to be a lot of opinions on what is a 'good' district or 'bad' district. In general, some nice areas of Long Island tend to boast good school districts. Ex: Lynbrook, Merrick, Bellmore, Port Washington, Great Neck, Syosset, Oyster Bay, etc. I am sure there are more, but those are just a few off the top of my head.

I'd def pick some categories are are most important and work from there..

Good luck!

If you are willing to go out east, i absolutely love the school district i work at eastport south manor. Manorville is a gorgeous town, very reasonable prices on an acre of propery. I would move out there in a heartbeat if my fh didnt have a business out west.

Also Centeport...which is Harborfields SD (low taxes depending where you live in Centerport) and Cold Spring Harbor (but CSH is insanely expensive).
