NWR: Shin splints??

Good morning Ladies ...

So I have been working out so hard lately, that I now have shin splints. I woke up this morning in agony!

Has anyone had these before? If so, PLEASE share your tips on easing the pain, and better yet, making them go away ...

My legs thank you in advance!!!

YES. Most of the time its from switching surfaces, have you been running outside or inside? Do you switch it up between running and things on grass?
I played soccer in college and got these all the time, and the only real thing you can do for it is some advil and ice. Its basically just your muscle starting to tear away from your bone.

I know its not much, but I hth!

Eat bananna's!!! The potasium is great for them!!

When I played field hockey I used to get them ALL the time. I would eat a bananna during a time out and it would really help.

Also there are stretches you can do pre and post workout to help - I'm sure you can just Google them.

Thanks so much ladies! I started going to kickboxing full force, and my body is just not used to all this extra weight bouncing around, you know? I'm using mineral ice after workouts, but thus morning was just brutal for me!

I've had shin splits for years...developed when I was a gymnast. Now they bother me when I walk a lot. Def Motrin and Ice helps and there are exercises you can do to strengthen the muscles around the bone. It helps in the long-term. There are tons of different way to tape up your feet (shin splints can be caused by flat feet) or even your actual calves.

Same here. I used to play basketball and softball and I've had them for years. It bothers me when I walk more than like 10 minutes. Strangest thing is that I have the biggest arches anyone has ever seen. Even my podiatrist doesn't get why I have them. But advil/motrin and ICE is all that really works. And make sure you stretch like crazy for at least a 1/2 hour before

I hope they go away soon! I have never had them, but I have heard how painful they can be. I have been having problems with my legs lately - and then this morning I woke up at 3am with a terrible charley horse! No idea what do to for that either.

Same thing - Potassium helps with muscle cramps so eat bananna's an it should help.

ETA: Also if you have them in the middle of the night, walk barefoot on your bathroom floor or any where in your house that has ceramic tile. The coldness from the floor will help you out.

Thanks so much! I never had any problems like this before, so I wouldn't have known where to start. This is great!

No prob - my grandma gets really bad charlie horses since she has bad kidney problems (not saying you are old lol or have that issue) and so she does the bathroom idea often and it helps.

I've done it before and it really does help especially when you are stretching.

I agree 100% with the banana thing! I eat at least half a banana every day, and I rarely get charlie horses anymore!

My legs are thanking all you lovely ladies for all your advice!
