'Shootings reported in front of Empire State Building
[Updated at 9:55 a.m. ET] A gunman believed to be responsible in the shooting of at least five people in front of the Empire State Building in New York was shot and killed by police, New York police said.
Authorities converged on the building around 9 a.m. after reports of gunfire.
A witness told CNN's Rose Arce that the gunman ran after and shot a man in the head. An unarmed guard chased the gunman away, the witness told Arce.'

My FMIL called me a half hour to go to make sure I was alive. Hope everyone is okay. They said only the gunman was dead. Hopefully the people who were shot weren't injured seriously.
Great, now in addition to worrying about people with bombs on the train I have to worry about getting shot up on the street. What is wrong with this world??

I just heard some of my co workers talking about this. So crazy! I heard 8 ppl were shot and 2 were dead but I am not sure if that is accurate. Such a shame.. I don't understand these ppl who do these horrible things... so sad!

The Daily news is saying he was fired yesterday and showed up this morning (suit, briefcase and all) and waited for his boss to arrive and shot him in the head as he was walking to the door.

Thats terrible, my fiance keeps saying that people are going to start going crazy because they are losing their jobs and feel hopeless. Hopefully all the victims are ok!

I was talking about this with FH too. After he shot his boss, he quickly walked away as if nothing. I think that had the cops not gotten to him first, he might have possibly taken his own life anyway. I'm just glad he was stopped before he got to anymore innocent people.

Now there is word that he was actually fired a year ago. I'm sure the story will keep changing until they speak to family and friends.
