i was thinking of doing a slide show for my FH as an xmas gift with pictures of both of us since we have been together... i want music in the background and will copy this to cd do you recommend any programs to use? or anything else i should add to it?

I did one for my FH of our Hawaii trip and used IZ's Somewhere Over The Rainbow as the background music - came out VERY nice if I do say so myself
I did it with Microsoft PhotoStory which I downloaded for free from Microsoft.com... it was VERY VERY VERY easy to use and the music for the background can be any mp3 or wma song.
You can change the timing of the pictures so some are just for 2 seconds but really important pics are like 10 seconds, or whatever you want.

I made a slideshow 2 years ago and sent that out as my Christmas card. I used a program called Pro Show Gold. I downloaded it from their site. They have a free trial download which is what I ended up using for my slideshow. I did end up buying it because I loved the program so much.
