NWR - Sometimes i really hate my job

So don't get me wrong...i've always wanted to be a doctor, since i was a young girl.....BUT, I never realized that residency is basically slave labor!

I can deal with the low pay, lack of respect from most patients...even with the long hours (to an extent). BUT, what is really getting under my skin lately, and probably becuase i am sick......is how we don't really get sick or personal days! I pretty much have to be near death to call out...and even then, i have to make up the day at another point. To my knowledge, no other job is forced to do this, am i wrong?

I have had a bad sinus headache for the past 3 days or so, no fever so i doubt its an infection....but it would still be very nice to be able to stay in bed and drink tea....but no, for the next 2 weeks i'm working 9p-9a every night except saturday....blah. I keep telling myself that in 3 years i'll be done with residency and MAYBE life will be a little different.

Sorry for the rant....my head hurts.

i graduated from law school last may and since august i've been working 6 days a week 10-12 hour days with no sick or personal days just recently got put on the permanent payroll, but i have to wait 3 months to get vacation at all. i totally understand your pain

I hate to say it but, yay! I finally dont feel like the only person (or only perfession) that gets the short end of the stick!!!

I understand that we are professionals, but how can you do anything productive when your sick! My sinuses are so clogged and my head is pounding so bad that there is no way i'm gonna be able to think striaght tonight....

*sigh*....Saturday morning needs to be here already

to be honest though, i think that's the way it is in any competitive field.

I was in sports marketing, and I constantly worked from 6am to Midnight, never got holidays or weeends off (because that's when games are played) and never took sick days because my boss would require a doctors note.

I eventually quit and moved back to NY because after missing my 3rd Christmas with my family, i had to say enough is enough!...

My bff's boyfriend is in finance, and always complains that he spent 4 years in college working his butt off just to be his bosses b*tch. He barely gets to do any of the stuff he studied.

When you're 'our age' we're all all the bottom of the totem poll, and get the short end of the stick.



I think you just have to decide if all the bad parts are worth it, and stay focused on your end goal.
