I know we all proofread eachother's invites (or will be when we have invites for those of us that don't!), so I wanted to ask if you girls wouldn't mind proofreading something for me...
I've never written a resume before, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to look. I copied and pasted it here, I'll probably delete it eventually, but if someone(s) wouldn't mind taking a look. I don't want anyone to think that I'm looking for someone to offer me a job, b/c I'm NOT at all. I just honestly need help, and you girls all seem intelligent and professional so I thought this would be a good place to ask!
(i cut my name, address, phone number, and email out of the top for lurkers)
Whoever looks at this, THANK YOU!!!
And it's not formatted this funky on my computer- I got the format down, it's just the info I'm slightly confused about
Deleted! A bit of personal info online, so I just wanted to leave it up for a short while. Thanks to all that responded!

Re: NWR, somewhat of a weird request...
I just went through resume h e l l myself when I got laid off from my job. However, most headhunters/agencies/resume writers said scrap the objective as that will be evident from your cover letter and scrap the activities section as its not needed and you can always relate activities you participated in to the job you are appplying for in your cover letter.

Thank you =) I appreciate you're taking the time to look at it & give me some opinions!

in the skills & abilities section you should add which versions on Windows you are familiar with. ex. 2000, XP, Vista.
some place still use older versions while other places use newer version.

Re: NWR, somewhat of a weird request...
oh wait! Jill do you mean Sigma Delta Tau or Sigma Tau Delta?
Delta Tau is the sorority, Tau Delta is an English Honor Society-- it gets mixed up alllll the time,
I'm an English nerd How bout you? lolol

Re: NWR, somewhat of a weird request...
-For the Education part, I would take out the zip codes. -Not really sure if the GPA is necessary. I know we don't really pay attention to that when we are hiring. -I would probably remove the Activities.
When we are looking for candidates, we really look at their experience. I would say that you should make a really great cover later and it should definitely be customized to each company that you are looking for. I can't tell you how many cover letters we read that mentioned their objective as nothing at all to do with the position they were applying for.
Good Luck!!!

Re: NWR, somewhat of a weird request...
My suggestions may not be applicable (I look at finance resumes) but here are some points I would suggest:
Definitely remove zip codes--you just need Hempstead, NY
Can you boost your description of Graduate Assistant? Did you have any certain focus?
Can you add a specific interest area/era of Literature that you are most interested in? Instead of what is currently in the objective (I usually don't like to see objectives in resumes--they are unnecessary) can you put what area you are trying to focus in for the specific job?
