NWR - Splitting bills

NWR - Splitting bills

For those of you who live with your FI, how do you guys split the bills? Do you pay half/ half on everything including the rent/ mortgage? do you each pay for different things? do you have a joint acct that household expenses come out of?

Re: NWR - Splitting bills

We've lived together for a few years now, and I've always been in charge of paying the bills (we don't have a joint account yet, but we're each authorized on each other's accounts). I pay 99.9% of our bills online, and there's really no rhyme or reason to which bills get paid out of which account. As a general rule, I try to pay as many of the bills as possible out of my account, and use his account as a forced savings (doesn't always work that way, though).

We've always approached the finances from the position that every dollar I have is his also and vice versa - so I've never paid attention to who pays what bill. It works for us....so far .

I am peaking in on the '06 board... but wanted to answer your question

FH and split all the bills for now. once we're married, we'll use our joint account, which is already established.

I'm responsible for the bills e/ month, but we have a 'wedding' account and he direct deposits his entire paycheck each week into it. Mine is directly deposited into my savings account. Generally I pay the rent and some of the bills (phone, my car payment, insurance, phone) & he pays for gas, food and the BULK of our wedding expenses. Generally he/I feel it is all the 'same' money anyway.

me and fh have been living together for like two years now and we have always split the bills fifty/fifty. Then when we got engaged he said he would pay rent while i put away money for the wedding. We have a joint savings for the wedding, plus we each maintain our own checking account.

Not at all. The scary thing to me is how sure I am that we are right together (and the financial aspect fits too). I never thought I would know so certainly and have so much confidence/faith in a relationship as I do in ours !

I have my own account he has his own account. but we also have our own savings for the just in case. We pay our own credit cards with our Checking account. But we do have just one Savings account for Rent, Household expenses, etc. Phone bill we split half and half because it's family plan and we don't have a house phone.

We've been living together for the past year and share one bank account. I pay all of the bills out of it and then each month we put away some for the wedding. For the most part this works for us and we both consider the money to be 'our' money.

We sort of split the bills. We pay rent 50/50 - but he pays for the parking because it is his car. I pay the cable and he pays the electric. Those are our only common bills. We have our own accounts and we do not have plans on using a joint account for a while. I need to have my money separate. I think it is important to have money to do with as you see fit.

I havemy own checking account and savings account. We do have a joint account(household account). FH takes care of all the bills except for my car payment , insurance.
The rest of the house bills gets paid from the household account. Money gets direct deposited from my checking to the joint. He puts in more money b/c he makes more.

We've only been living together for a few months, we each have our own accounts. Prob won't get a joint one til after we're married. He's supposed to give me $$ every week but sometimes it's tough for him so I end up paying more than half the rent. I also pay for food but he pays cable and electric and whenever we go out, and then does household chores so he earns his keep!

we each have our own checking and then we have a joint 'house fund' account

we don't keep track...fh probably pays 99.9% because he makes ALOT more than I do!

I have my own savings and checking and so does the FI. We have a joint savings and a joint checking as well. Whatever is between us - rent, phone bill, cable, etc, is paid from the joint account 50/50.

Mom always said have some money stashed away for yourself! You just never know!

We have separate checking and saving accounts. Plus we have a joint account. We deposit a et amount each month into the joint account and use that for household bills (utilities, food, and laundry and dry cleaning).

The mortage I paid b/c he has house that he takes care of some where else and the car I take care because it is mine.

Plus any time we go out he pays and he saves a lot more than I do and will be paying the bulk of the wedding expenses himself.

In the end we both spend 50/50 when we look at it on paper.

Right now, FH and I don't live together. I still live at home with my father, he has an apartment with a roommate. In terms of paying for the wedding, my dad is taking care of most of it.

FH and I just bought a house together, signed the contract yesterday
once we have the house, we'll put all money into basically one account. Bills will be come out of there. With everything going on, there will be very little 'extra' money!

I am in charge of paying all of the bills. We currently have separate checking accounts but we are both authorized users. We also have a joint savings account that is our wedding fund (and we haven't had to touch it yet!! ). Rent is split in half. We divided the rest of the household bills so we are both paying equal amounts. I pay my own car and insurance, as does he. He also is paying all of his bills right now and I am saving the money for our wedding. I would rather he take care of his debt (I don't have much) so that we don't have to pay interest. He usually pays when we go out and does a lot of the grocery shopping. As other ladies have stated, we consider the money we both make as 'our money.'

Re: NWR - Splitting bills

We split everything...some bills are in his name, some in mine. Then at the end of the month we record it on an Excel spreadsheet and I give him a check to make up the difference (he pays the rent, so he always winds up paying more). It's actually a great way to compare what we're spending each month to other months, since we keep it all on one big spreadsheet.

Re: NWR - Splitting bills

Since we started dating we just shared money....splitting has never been an issue....it just comes out of wherever there is money at the time...we are waiting till we move to philly to get joint accounts....but thats basically how we work now
