No, I don't have it. Just wanted to make that clear before I rant.
Is anybody else either slightly amused by the fact that people are getting sick with a pig virus? Seriously, I would like to find out who the first person to get this flu was!
And I'm getting slightly annoyed by it as well.
What do you think?

While I totally agree that the media sensationalism is out of control (as usual) the implications of a flu virus that a human has NO immunity to is pretty serious. Look what happened the last time the flu raged out of control:http://virus.stanford.edu/uda/

Re: NWR: Swine Flu
I just heard on the news today that it most likely started with this little boy in Mexico. they aren't sure just how is spread around just yet... but this little kid was sick with it about a month and a half ago or so. he was on the news talking about it too.

eek. that was freaky to read!
i thought they had some sort of vaccination for it? I thought they said they didn't have a lot on hand and that it would take some time ot make more of it... but they have something for it.
also,... for the record.. that little boy who is supposidly the initial 'starter'... he is healthy and fine now. They said he got it from a pig. He has a pig farm or something to that effect. I didn't get the full story (I was cleaning my kitchen as I listened to it).

Re: NWR: Swine Flu
They are comparing this to the Spanish Influenza and the Black Plague (and the Bird Flu of China.) No one has died here, but they are in Mexico so I think its pretty scary.

There is no vaccine for it. No one was anticipating this, so there is no vaccine

Re: NWR: Swine Flu
I didn't realize that the first person was a little boy who has a pig farm! Wow, the things you learn every day.
I think I am starting to freak out about it. . .who knows if there's a much stronger virus out there, waiting to mutate and turning this into a pandemic. . .

Its the end of the world!!! the economy is crashing, pigs are going to kill us all....
ok im done freaking out
It annoys me a little. I mean I understand that there is no vaccine etc, but the regular flu kills thousands and thousands of people every year and we don't go freaking out over that. I dunno. Im clueless about all of it.

It was a 5-year old boy who first caught it. (And he's fine now). But they have no idea where he got it from b/c the nearby pigs have tested negative. The reason it's so serious is b/c humans have no natural immunity to this virus b/c it's naturally only found in pigs. In fact, it's not really all that funny.

Re: NWR: Swine Flu
it is def something to be aware of. as long as you get some meds right when you start feeling sick you should be fine. i think its a HUGE wakeup call for everyone to be a little more consicous of where you go, washing your hands, being sanitary and just overall aware of the situation.

Re: NWR: Swine Flu
I don't really think it is 'amusing' that people are getting sick (and some dying) from a virus that we have no vaccination for. However, I do feel that the media is blowing all of this out of proportion. I mean it is VERY serious, but they are just scaring people even more than they need to at this point. People die every year from the flu, but that is not all over the media. I dunno, I mean it is sad, but we should not all be freaking out. Just be causious!

the first death in the US happened yesterday I think .. its all over the paper.. I think they are over exaggerating it.. but its pretty scary that there is no vaccine or meds for it...

Re: NWR: Swine Flu
the first us death was a 23 month old child (very sad) but they also fail to mention he came from mexico his family sent him here to get medical treatment, it was not a us citizen who died (not that is makes it any better) but the way things are worded its crazy, i do think this should be awake up call i hope all this stuff settles down because i really fear having kids in this world!

Re: NWR: Swine Flu
Like the Avian Flu, someone didn't have to be playing with pigs or whatever. It can be spread through saliva or anything else. Someone could have fed a pig or touched a trough or fence where a pig had contact and gotten it.
Unlike the Avian Flu, it seems to be spreading very easily person to person. The avian flu is not mutated to transmit people to people quite so easily yet.

Re: NWR: Swine Flu
The CDC said that it came from flies actually. They believe flies contracted the avian flu and then mixed with the fecies of pigs and also contracted swine flu. So it's actually mixture of the two. It also means, no one really had to play with pigs. It's those nasty, disgusting flies.
