I finished my Master's in Literacy in May 2010. I took the Literacy exam in June, passed, applied for certification, and clearly was accepted since I passed all requirements.
I NEVER received a paper certificate, and have been holding this certification since September!
I just had to pay the TEACH website $25.00 to get a copy of something I never received!!
GRRRR!!!!!
Other teachers, I'm sure you understand my frustration with this craziness!

I went through this recently too and called the state last summer. They no longer send paper copies. You have to pay $25 for a copy of it if you want the paper.

That's berserk! And I'm sure I'll have to go through this nonsense again if I have to extend my certifications...I'm seriously considering hyphenating when I get married that way I don't have to do it twice.

As of last summer, I believe, they no longer send out paper certifications. I am currently holding a certification, which I was employed under this past year, but do not have a paper copy. School districts have the ability to log into the TEACH system and see whether your certification is valid or invalid. I haven't had a problem yet and am receiving my Literacy certification this summer. I am bummed to hear that they are charging $25 for each copy tho! Just another way to get money from us!

Glad to have read this...I got my certification in Childhood Ed in Feb and never received a copy. I thought that's how it was I guess they were missing my 25 bucks

Yep the state no longer gives it out... just like Megan said the state doesn't print them anymore but any district has the ability to check your number with the state. I worked as a leave replacement all year (I'm a school counselor) and my district never needed a paper copy and neither have any of the places I've interviewed.
Congrats on the certification though! That's always an exciting day...
and now I return to the job hunt because my leave officially ended today!!!

I'm also on the job hunt. Sucks! In the city they aren't hiring anywhere, hopefully by September something comes up.
