NWR-Teachers

Anyone know how to spice up a lesson on geometry for 4th grade? I am in charge of the unit and I need some good ideas! TIA

Definitely use manipulatives! You can go crazy with it, students love things they can touch and see, it also helps them understand concepts better! If you give me more info/topics maybe I can help more....

Re: NWR-Teachers

I taught some geometry for 3rd grade. I made road signs out of construction paper so the kids could see the different shapes in the real world, on the other side I pu the name of the shape. Like the stop sign octogon and rectangular street signs, you get the idea.

Then when we did symmetry I had them cut out 2 of each shape real small (I gave them something to trace from) and I had them cut out the shape of a butterfly. I told them to decorate the butterfly's wings so that it would still be a symmetrical mirror image. The kids loved the project and since it was springtime we used them to decorate the classroom, I called it 'Spring into Symmetry'.

HTH!! GL!!

I know of a really cute book 9although i teach first grade)..it's called the Greedy Triangle.

If you give me more info about the subtopics, and I can think of some more.

p.s. try using some geometry games!
