What does 'support' look like to you? (BTW: You're helping me write a paper!!! Thanks!)

Support looks like:
When a person listens, gives advise, and shows you how to implement it into your class (JMO)

Re: NWR: Teachers....
A good principal to me is someone who is fair, listens to his/her staff and actually does their best to implement some of their suggestions and is supportive. Supportive in a variety of ways: helpful in dealing with parents who may be acting unreasonable (and not always assuming the parent is right), helps get resources for your classroom; creates an environment in which staff and students feel positive about coming to school.

This is awesome! Thanks! What do you think their role is toward families?

Towards families: Support as well and a mediator when it comes to family issue.

Re: NWR: Teachers....
For the families:
I think they need to be good at communicating with the community the goals of the school, school policies and of course the positive things being accomplished by the staff and students
I also think they need to be able to act as a mediator in situations where it is clear that it cannot be handled simply between the teacher, guidance and parent. I also think it is part of their role to act as the final say of discipline on a school wide basis (issues that go beyond just the classroom).

PD should be based on:
test scores teacher self-assessment administrator's observations and the school vision

For the families, don't automatically take their side. Listen to what your teacher has to say first and then deal with the parent. Then, when meetings occur with a parent, never let a parent disrespect your teachers. Once a parent gets unruly, a good principal should stop the meeting immediately.
