nwr: teachers

I need a little guidance/help. I graduated last yr with my masters in school counseling and am still trying to find a job......There is a position open in the plainedge school district that I applied for. Heres where I need help: every position I have applied for through olas I have never gotten calls for, if any of you have any advice on anything else I can do, to at least get an interview would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

if you are really serious and want to make an impression, i would go to the school or central office and hand deliver a copy of my resume as well. alot of times they post the openings as a formality but already have a candidate in mind to take the position unfortunately...

best of luck!

It's really, really hard right now...a lot of schools are making cuts, not hiring. Before I got my probationary position, I applied to about 60 jobs through OLAS and never got one interview. The openings are really only listed as a formality. GOOD LUCK!!!

Ah man. I went to PLainedge. That would be a great place to get in. Could you go to the school directly yourself and talk to someone? It will show you're really interested. I never heard from anything on OLAS either. I'm a NYC teacher.

Good luck!!!!! Which school/subject in Plainedge? GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! It seems like you need to know someone with LI schools.

I am a certified teacher looking for a full time job and OLAS never calls. Don't feel bad, it's not the best site. I feel like to get a job you need to really make an impression and get to know people that have a say in hiring. It's so hard right now

I had a really hard time with OLAS. I was excessed from the school I used to work in two years ago. I spent the entire summer sending resumes and I finally got a job the DAY before school started in Queens. It worked out because I love my school but it was SO stressful!!!

To get all the interviews I sent resumes to every school... not just the district office but the individual elementary schools. That's where I got my interviews... the individual principals I sent to. I also emailed to every school in District 25 and 29 (those are right along the Nassau border). I also spent like two weeks in the middle of the summer traveling to districts that had openings and hand delivering my resumes to the principal of each school and the district office. I did get a few interviews from that as well. It's a PITA but it works out in the end.

I went to Plainedge.... it's a great school! Good luck!
