NWR: Teachers. CST before Student Teaching?

Has anyone taken the (elementary) CST before student teaching? There's a test in February, and I was thinking about getting it overwith since I don't student teach until September. Is it something you definitely need to take while student teaching? Is it difficult? Any advice? My school does not require a thesis, but I will have to take a comprehension exam with a LOT of reseach, and I want to get done what I can this semester so I'm not worrying about it close to the wedding.

Thanks!

I crammed all 4 of my tests into my last 2 semesters, but I found that I was able to take the mutli subject CST and LAST without much background knowledge. The ATS-W I would recommend waiting for, because it had some info regarding what you learn in student teaching. I also had to take a Students with Disabilities CST, and that was definately the hardest!! Good luck!

ATS-W I just took at the beginning of December. That one I definitely found the hardest! I switched from English Ed to Elementary Ed, so the methods courses I took back then semi-prepared me for what to expect. Thanks for the advice!

I would honestly just take it and get it over with. I took two cst's (multi and children w/disability) a year before student teaching and did fine. There is no way to prepare but doing the practice test that is online at nystce... i did that the night before. Just do it...worst case scenario you take it again...If you wait until the end..you will not have time to retake it..just in case you fail..

good luck!

I took it before student teaching. You should be fine. What are you taking the CST in? I took the Multicontent one. It has specific questions. But none really relating to what you would learn during student teaching.

What is the 4th test?

I took LAST, ATS-W, and CST.

Is it the video you are talking about?

i took the cst multisubject. None of the questions were ed related except for the essay question. they basically gave you a synopsis of a student with a running record and you had to analyze their strengths and weaknesses in reading based on that info.

it was mind numbing!

good luck!
