HI, It is International month in my school. My kindergarten and 1st grade are focusing on recipes around the world.
Since I am an enrichment teacher I thought I would read a book like 'Everybody Cooks Rice' and do a cute activity.
Anyone ever use this book?
Does anyone have other book suggestions and/or activities?
Thanks

Re: NWR: Teachers 'Everybody Cooks Rice'
Are you thinking of Everybody Eats Rice? I can't remember the author, but I used it a few years ago. It was fun, we put little stickes on a map to show the many places where children eat rice. You could also have them brainstorm other things that all kids do/eat. have fun :) Also, How to Make an Apple Pie and see the World by Marjorie Priceman is cool...the little girl travels all over the world to get the ingredients for her apple pie.

Hi, This is the book: Everybody Cooks Rice by Norah Dooley, Peter Thornton (Illustrator)
The apple pie book sounds cute.
Can you think of other activities they can do at their seats? This class is crazy and can't stay on the rig too long. I have them for about a good 15 minutes and then I lose them.
Thanks for the suggestions................

YES! I love that book. You can do various lessons: geography, measuring, you can even bring in the different rices like basmati, long grain, jasmine, medium, brown rice...etc. After you read the book, you can even have a rice festival, where kids sample all the rices mentioned in the book. You can do English lessons like discuss the adjectives that are used to describe the rice. I can't think of any more right now...hope that helps!

Great Ideas! I wish I could have a rice festival, but I only see the kids one period a week and I think their teacher would flip.
If I brought in the different rice, what could they do with it??????
