I FINALLY got 2 interviews tomorrow (YEAAA!) but now I'm scared. What q's can I expect from NYC schools?
Also they asked for my file number (not sure what this is, I've been fingerprinted & have my cert & have my resume online w/ BOE site, but have no idea what they mean).
One job is ECE & the other they wouldn't tell me, only said school goes from K-5.
Any ECE teachers? What type of schedule do you follow?
What do principals want to hear re: discipline plan?
Can someone explain the NYC public school reading block to me?
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

Re: NWR: Teachers, need help!
If you have been fingerprinted and have a cert. from the Bd of Ed than you should have a file #. You can't work if you have no file #. The cert. you are talking about might be your file #. where are the interviews, what schools or are they at the reigon office.

They are at 2 separate schools in Queens. I spoke to both of the principals.
There's a 'control number' on my cert

Re: NWR: Teachers, need help!
Hi Cindy,
I can only answer the file # question, so hopefully someone else will come to your aid on the other q's. You don't have a file # yet b/c you haven't been hired by the city. If you do get hired, then you will get a file #. I was hired by a school in Queens back in May, and I still won't be getting my file # until the first day of school.
Hope that helped!! Best of luck on your interviews.

Re: NWR: Teachers, need help!
good luck!! Im a school counselor but I have a lot of friends who are teachers.. id focus on being very positive and emphasize that you are a team worker. on my interview i spoke about how each student is entirely different and that I would do what I could to figure out what a student needed and work to the best of my ability to provide it. be yourself.. and relax!!

If a BOE principal wants to hire you, THEY will process the red tape and get access to your file number. I have an inactive file with the BOE in case I ever got offered a nice little kindergarten class in Bayside (yeah right).

Re: NWR: Teachers, need help!
You will get your file number once you are hired. You can be put on payroll without. I didn't have one when I was hired. It wasn't a big deal, but it did take a while for me to get my first pay check.
The only other question I can answer is about the literacy block. NYC uses balanced literacy for the reading block. In grade 4, we do read aloud, word study, guided reading then writing every day. The block is 3 periods long. (120 minutes)
Good luck on your interviews!
