FH is a teacher but he is really unhappy in the school that he is currently teaching. It is far from home and not the greatest neighborhood (South Bronx) he teaches 8th grade math and Science. He wants to teach somewhere either in Queens or LI.
If anyone can please tell me where he should go (or if it is even too late for September) or point him in the right direction we would really appreciate it.
TIA!

if he wants to stay with the city tell him to go to nycboe.net and he should be able to find some jobs or call the union to see if can transfer.

Re: NWR: Teachers need your help
tell him to sign up at the website nyeducationjobs.com
it is 10$ a month to join, but they have a lot of listings- also, check the NY times, and apply to every school listing jobs!

Re: NWR: Teachers need your help
Well, he definately has an advantage being Math & Science. In addition to the other great suggestions, he should visit as many LI school districts websites as possible for job openings. I would just apply everywhere. It's not too late for September if a district has a need.

Re: NWR: Teachers need your help
Check the New York Times every Sunday. Also, he can just send out his resume to different districts so that they have it on file even before the job gets posted in the paper.

He has to go to the open market system. He should sign on to the DOE website, click on human resources and then the link to the open market transfer system. He doesn't have much time...hurry!

Re: NWR: Teachers need your help
He should go to the nycdoe website, and look up schools in queens in each district. He should look up each school on a map and see if it is a location where he would like to teach. Then he should email and fax and snail mail his resume to each school he is interested in. There may be schools that are not on the open marked transfer plan that are looking for someone. Teachers quit, retire, take leave at the last minute, and it can't hurt to send to desirable schools that do not have vacancies listed. Good luck!

Re: NWR: Teachers need your help
It is TOTALLY NOT TOO LATE!!! Many districts often have unexpected openings in August, but I definitely would act NOW. Look on district websites for openings, or even visit schools with his resume. Walking in resumes is a great way to introduce himself. OLAS is good too. Good luck!

Re: NWR: Teachers need your help
if he is math and science he should have an easier time finding a job.. just tell him to apply all over LI!!!
my bro just finished with earth science degree and is subbing and they wanted to immediately hire him... Math and science is in demand.
here is a website of all LI school districts its going to take time to apply online to all the districts he wants but it will be worth it in the end..
