NWR: Teachers, NYC Summer School

NWR: Teachers, NYC Summer School

I am applying to teach summer school and I was just wondering if anyone knew how it worked.

Do you get placed in any school they want to put you in?
Do you get paid at the end of the summer?

What are the odds I would even get called to teach?

Thanks

I have taught summer school before and have been very lucky because I was placed in my own school. I do think that summer school is being restructured like night school and every school will host their own summer school program. You should definitely ask about this.

The money is great. You get two full orientation days, one of which can be used to prepare your room and such. You put your time card in on the 1st and 16th of each month. For example, you work for July 5-July 15 and on July 16th you put in your card. You get paid on August 1st for that time. From July 16th -31st, you would get paid on the 16th of August and so forth. The cool thing about the orientation days is that they are in June, so you get a little something in mid-july.

The money for summer school is excellent, but for the first time in my career I am taking the ENTIRE summer off. I have worked so hard this year and been through a lot, so I am really looking forward to it.

Good luck!!

Dumb question, but what subjects are usually taught over the summer? Math and teh ELA?

This is for elementary school.

Who is in charge? The principal of the school?
Is it a regular school day?

Thanks

It depends what schools in your district are holding summer school. My school has a camp so I have been at 3 other schools. It really is great because you have a chance to network and meet new people.

They focus on math and ela for summer school. Instruction will be heavier in the subject your students need to test in at the end of the summer.

I have been a math coach and a literacy coach during the past few summers. FM me if you have any questions.

I just saw your other questions:

An AP will be your summer school supervisor. There are also coaches and administrative interns. The past few years the schedule has been 8:30-12:30, Monday to Thursday.
