NWR: Teachers who use Smartboard

I have to write a paper on Smart Notebook Software. I did the online tutorial and now I am trying to write a paper that shows I learned something from it. What cool things can you guys do in the classroom because of this technology?

I figure if I am going to procrastinate on this I might as well try to accomplish something.

We have several of them in my school and I have done some lessons on there. It is pretty cool- you can just write on it using the pens, you can watch movies on it (like from brainpop.com) you can make chart and graphs and stuff too. Does that help at all? Let me know if i can be of more help!

smartboard is AMAZING!!!

I use it all of the time. its pretty cool. you can scan anything into it. I use it alot with my students who have autism. They love to come up and touch the board. i post pictures and usually ave the kids move them around with their hands or circle pictures with the electronic markers. You can scan a students work onto it an proof-read and edit it together as a class. You can also record a lesson and play it back at a later date.

My best friend has one and uses it for everything. She was teaching her first graders about westward expansion and used a map and horse and cart from the software. She had the kids move the cart across the map as they learned (it made horse noises the kids loved). She pulled a slide and put the secure sheet over it. She had the kids move blends and digraphs down the slide as a visual aide to stretch and slide words. She makes tons of self correcting games for centers too.

i teach inclusion and its great b/c i do a lot of coloring in for charts and diagrams for bio, so i can do it with the whole class and then print out the colored in 'answer key' to give to my students who get copies of notes b/c they have poor motor skills.

it also has ruler and protractor features which are great for math classes, and a highlighter function that i can do test prep with my kids and highlight key words for when i'm breaking down complicated questions or reading passages

thats all i got, i;ve only had it a few weeks and i'm still learning

Thank you. See now my LIW girls are helping with more then just my wedding. At least I feel like I am procrastinating a little less now.

we have promethean boards and find it is so time consuming (I teach high school) to recreate everything we have already done. We basically use it just to play games with them.

My favorite use for the Smartboard is when we're revising and editing our work. Also, I dont know if you can combine other technology in your paper but if you have an ELMO you can project kids' work in their handwriting on the screen - very cool!

The Elmo is AWESOME!! You can turn any book into a shared reading and then write all over it. It is a great tool!!

I've gotten worksheets online and you can use the smartboard to pull them up and use one of those erasable markers to have the students come up and write the answers, it gets them out of their seats and moving and if they're actually DOING something, they're more apt to remember the information.

i love the manipulative capability. i do lessons where we brainstorm story details and sort them into graphic organizers. I use the infinite cloner to create punctuation 'toolkits' as i like to call them to fix students' errors (great for tactile learners). i do a lot with observations, making inferences, and creative writing in response to photography and artwork, using the magic pen maginifier and spotlight to focus in on specific details. i love the games they have in the Smart Notebook version 10 that recently came out, which has all kinds of sorting activities that i use for identifying types of figurative language and whatnot. there's so much more to say, but you'll have to FM me if you're interested. hth.

smart boards rule!
