I applied for the teaching fellows but chose not to accept. They are very strict with the rules as it's and EXTREMELY competitive program so they can afford to be. Did you get your Bachelor's there or was it in an associate's degree?

Hmmm, I would say if it says it's a minor than it's a minor. But, it may not be considered an official minor to your actual bachelor's degree, especially if it was less than 18 credits, was it?
You're going to have to call them and ask. They are very helpful with questions and everyone usually has alot. Also, def. go to one of the information sessions that they hold. They do an open Q&A there and you can ask whatever you want. Good Luck!!

Did you COMPLETE the minor, or was it simply declared that you minored?

If you minored at Community College (2-year program), I'd think that's not the same as a minor to your bachelor's degree...

I agree, and I think the minor to your Bachelor's is what they're referring to. But again, best to call them and ask for specifics. No sense in writing all of those essays if the issue of your minor will not allow your application for consideration.

They are strict as far as their rules for consideration. What I mean is, if you don't abide by all of their criteria your application will be dismissed right off the bat. It's an extremely competive program, they're acceptance rate (at least last I checked but you can read more on their website) hovers around 10% I think. It wasn't the strictness of their application program that made me decline. I was accepted but then decided it wasn't for me and it wouldn't be fair for me to accept the scholarship if my heart and head weren't in in 100%. There's the application process, then if you pass through to stage 2 there's the interview/lesson plan stage. It's a rigorous but enjoyable process if that's where your passion lies.

It is a very short time. I went through the whole interview/group activity/lesson plan stage. Their biggest thing with the lesson plan is that even though it's only 5 minutes long, they want it to have a clear beginning, middle and end. You'll have to give them the actual lesson plan on paper of course with all of this detailed out as well as objective but they want to see you complete the entire thing as well. They will literally cut you off mid-sentence when the timer reaches 5 minutes. It's very stressful, I won't lie, but it was fun too.

I did a 3rd grade math lesson. To me when I was researching, even though I'm terrible at math and was not going to be a math teacher, the elementary math lessons were easiest (with no prior teaching experience of course) to find a beginning, middle and an end. There was a girl in my group that did a vocabulary lesson. Another woman did an algebra lesson and another girl I remember did a language arts lesson (middle school range) where she read a passage from a book and discussed it. That one I wouldn't recommend because it didn't have any clear 'bullet points' so to speak.

Good Luck!!!
