Does anyone work for a private school in New York City that is hiring for summer and/or fall positions.
I have begun my master's in education but am looking for a position to begin teaching.
Any help will be appreciated!
My current job might be gone in a few months (office job), so I REALLLY need to find something ASAP.

Re: NWR: Teaching Jobs - HELP!!!!
I'm currently looking as well. I'm a sub. but I'm finishing my masters now so I want a full time permanent position. I look on olasjobs.org alot- they're always posting new positions (however thats for L.I)
I've found MANY private NYC schools advertise on craig's list! They often give links to the schools so you can check it out and make sure its legit.
Good luck!

Do you have certification?? I though that chater school required certification?? If they don't i'll start sending my resume to them too.
Any suggestions of how you found the Chater School would be awesome.

If you dont have certification but are in the process many schools will hire you as either a subsitute or a T.A. If you're interested in special ed. check out Nassau BOCES

I sub at nassau boces. They will hire you if you are pending cert. but you will only be allowed to sub as a teacher a certain amount of days..the rest you will have to sub as a T.A. Im not sure exactly but I think its like 40 days or so the reast you will have to do as a T.A.

Yep, i'm pretty sure its 40 days. Sub teachers earn $110 per day and T.As earn $69 per day at nassau boces. Its a big difference obviously. I sub as both a teacher and a T.A, and i tend to get more calls for T.A jobs. There are also a ton of schools you can work at.

If you get fingerprinted and apply at the NYC DOE you can sub for more than $130 a day. Its pretty consistent work once you get yourself in with a school you like.

Also, have you cinsdiered teaching assistant positions? You do not have to have a teaching certificate to be hired. many districts have TAs with teaching degrees, but it's not necessarily a requirement. most districts on LI would hire a TA at mid- 20K per year and benfits (if you opt in).

If you're not certified yet, you may want to check out parochial schools. The $$ isn't the same as public schools, but you'll have experience on your resume for after you finish your master's. good luck!
