My district's superintendent will be doing my tenure year observation on the Tuesday after we return from Thanksgiving. He is coming in to observe during my WORST class. I teach resource room and have many 'behaviors' that period. I am so worried that they will be especially off, since it will be a day after returning from an extended weekend . . .

I think that students get concerned during observations that *THEY* are being watched as well so they tend to be a bit better behaved. I am sure it will go smoothly... good luck and let us know

I always tell my kids when I get obseves that the person is coming in to see how Smart, good, etc.. they are. It usually works(then again I teach kindergarten and they belive anything I tell them )

Atleast you have warning.. ours just comes in whenever he feels like it.. stays for 10 mins. rips apart your plan book and thinks he has an idea what you've been doing in your class for the past three years!

I know how you feel. I had a doozy of a class the year I had my tenure observation. But in the end they really surprised me. I think the fact that a new person is in the room straightens them out. Don't worry, I'm sure they will be fine. Read them the riot act before. That always works.

Good luck! I too also tell my class that someone is coming to see have they behave and follow rules.
Don't stress about it - you'll ruin your Thanksgiving. You'll have tenure before you know it!

you're going to do great! i think you should probably warn the kids beforehand.. and maybe even a tiny bribe? like if everyones good how about an early holiday party/late thanksgiving party? i dunno..

I was observed yesterday and I agree....def tell the kids that they are coming to see them. It works everytime. Bribing is also a great tactic!!! Good luck!

I teach and can totally understand, I'm a little late posting as your obs is today. why not prep the class? let them know they will be having a visitor and offer points to the best students who actively and positively participate. Then the following day if they do well, bring in treats! works like a charm!!
