Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
Every year this is up for discussion. We don't live together, so we have to sqeeze in both families on both Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year FH has requested that we all go to his house (I cooked for all of us last year)- so my parents are going over FIL's to join us this year

We always spend Thanksgiving day home alone...its a nice peaceful holiday compared to chaotic Christmas with both of our families.

Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
FH is from upstate NY, where my FILS still live. We split the holidays, spending Thanksgiving here w. my family, and Christmas w. his. My family got Thanksgiving b.c its right near my birthday. It ****s driving to Syracuse in the snowy December though! And I still have not really gotten over spending Christmas away from my family, I cried half the day the first year.
We are having Thanksgiving at our house. This is the second year we have done it, and we are having 8 people (!) this year. I figure it gives my mom a break after all those years of cooking. My secret to sanity is that I have the turkey & stuffing catered. It comes out great.

Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
I am taking 3 - yes, 3 planes in one day to join my extended family in Midland, Texas. A whole slew of cousins and aunts and - my brother and I are totally surprising my mom! (FH has to work and could not get any time off so he is not coming) She has absolutely no clue that we are coming to this shindig (he lives in Dallas, I live here) and will be SO surprised! I don't like to fly, but I adore these people, and REALLY can't wait to see my mom's face. Oh yeah - 3 planes back, too.

Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
Luckily my husband's family all live in MA so we only really spend 2 holidays per year with them. We go up for mother's day, since I see my Moms all the time and we drive up very late Christmas Eve (about 9pm) and spend Christmas and 2 days after with them. I spend Christmas Eve with my family so it is fine. But once we have children we will not go up for Christmas Day since I want Santa to come to our house and have the kids open their gifts under their own tree. We will probably go up on the 26th then.

Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
Well FI parents have a house in Hilton Head, SC. We are driving down with the dog on Saturday morning. It's a 13 hour drive..ugh. It will be worth it once we are there. So I won't get to see my family but we do Christmas with them. My FI family is from England last yr let's just say it wasn't what I'm used to for Turkey day. They do things a bit different. This year we are going to their friends house who are Scottish...Not to sure what I'll be eating there..I hope they have a bird at least If not i'll have to call my dad and tell his to save me some yummy food
Anyone else traveling? I can't wait to have my own house so we can entertain :)

Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
We are going to FMIL's house in OHIo, boring. Buts that the one holiday he we spend with his family. So its not that bad. I promised him we would spend Thanksgiving with his mom in Ohio, but once we have a house and kids hopefully. We will fly her to NY to stay with us.

Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
This is a crazy one for us. We live in TX (for now at least...planning to get back Northeast VERY soon!!), My family is on LI, FH is in Indiana. So for us holidays with family are all or nothing. We have already decided that we are not commiting to any holidays here or there...will play it by ear every year and try to keep it fair. But with the cost of traveling I want to be able to just stay home for some holidays and not have to hear 'But it is our turn to see you this year!'. Agree to nothing and there will be no trouble (at least that is my idealistic way to look at it!). We'll see what the years bring us! But this Thanksgiving for me is a whirlwind week on LI making final plans and meeting with every vendor in a span of 4 days!! Talk about crazy!

Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
My FH are spending Thanksgiving apart. I have no time left (for vacation) to go down to Florida, and he's working. So the first main holiday we are spending together is Valentines Day

Re: NWR - Thanksgiving Day
Not sure yet - last year it was Ronald McDonald (that was on the front page of all the newspapers because he was half deflated), but we think it might be Jeeves, of askjeeves.com
