NWR: This guy lives a few blocks from FH!!!

FH and I drive past this house all the time! I call it 'the crazy house' and have taken pictures of it because it's just THAT nutty!!!!
Never saw the guy outside or anything. Feel kinda bad for him

This was in today's NY Post:

Fort, Sweet Fort

This man's home is not just his castle -- it's his impregnable fortress.

Watched over by nine security cameras and guarded by roll-down gates, window bars, four locks on the front door and barbed wire in the side and back yards, octogenarian Harry Luft figures he's safe from Queens' 'crazy people.'

'Warning: Burglar Alarm,' says a sign that almost seems redundant posted on the front of the Ozone Park house.

'I live alone, and I was robbed here three times,' said Luft, a retired bookbinder.

'I'm not a nut or anything like that,' he said. 'I just want to protect myself. Life is too short. I lived to be 86 years old, and I don't have many more years to go.'

Luft, who has two children, began installing protection around his house on 105th Street 20 years ago, shortly after his wife died of cancer.

First came the roll-down gates -- but they didn't stop thieves. Six years ago, Luft said, he was robbed of a TV, jewelry and cash.

So he built up his security systems, eventually installing the cameras, which he said cost 'a little over $10,000.'

Three are mounted on a pole outside the house, and another is above the front door, protected by its own awning.

The cameras seem to be key, he said -- since installing them, he's had no crime at all.

'When you live alone, you've got to protect yourself,' said Luft, who has lived in the house for 52 years.

He has even installed ladders on the house's second-story exterior walls, in case he has to flee. 'I don't have fire escapes,' he explained.

'There's all kinds of characters. They see you live alone, and they take advantage of you,' Luft said. 'You can't always call the Police Department, because after a while they get tired of you and think you're a wacko.

'I'd rather not talk to the Police Department . . . I've invested all of this here to protect myself.'

The cameras aren't all that keep an eye on Luft -- his neighbors look out for him, too.

'He's a cool guy,' said Mala Cooper, 48, who lives across the street. 'People admire all the cameras.'

'I guess he just wants to be safe,' said Manuj Rannauth, 40, another neighbor.

'He's a nice person. He keeps to himself. He doesn't bother anyone. I don't have a problem with it if he feels comfortable.'

Poor thing...I hope he feels safe, and I hope is WILL BE safe. Too many crazy low lifes if this world that will pray on old people. Sad that life can come to this.

I drive by it all the time too, in my commute to/from work. My parents don't live too far away from him either - Ozone Park is the next town that borders them.

Thats really funny. Now the story explains a lot of things.

omg, that just made me really sad... i want to hug him!!!!

i dont like the fact that they quote him saying he lives alone and Where he lives though... kinda makes it easy for ppl to locate a little old man.
