I was just curious if any of you have hypothyroidism? I was just diagnosed and I have to go to an endocrinologist this week and have a bunch more tests done. I know I will probably have to be put on meds, but I was just curious about side effects....any advice would be great...thanks...

Thanks...I think they are going to do a nedle biopsy to check some more, which I am terrified about...
One plus...my dr. said this is why I have been having so much trouble losing weight, and when the meds regulate the levels, the weight should really start coming off...which is great!

I am a wealth of knowledge. I am both hypothyroid and have hashimotos syndrome. The first thing you should know is that at first, you may have some trouble finding the right dose of synthroid for you. They will put you on the dose they expect to be right and then do bloodwork after a few weeks to make sure it is right. If they put you on too much, you might feel jumpy and feel your heart beating fast and you might have trouble falling asleep. If they don't put you on enough , you will still feel tired.

My sister is going to have surgery to remove a growth on her thyroid next month. She will always be on meds. However, as soon as she went on them, she lost 12 lbs. in a week.

I have it also. I take synthroid and I feel a lot better. I was sleeping all the time, feeling very tired, cranky, and irratable. It was amazing how 1 little pill could change so much. I was lucky and the 1st dose they started me on worked. I have noticed that I am losing weight a little easier, but it is not nearly as easy as everyone told me it would be. Give it about a month and you'll notice a change in the way you feel. I go every 3-4 months for blood work and that's it. Good Luck

this is so weird, I just posted this last week also. I havent been confirmed bc my dr appointment is weds but I am pretty sure I will have it. Both parents have it and both sides of granparents...
they are all on meds and have no side effects. once they started them, they felt a lot better had more energy and lost weight.
Dont fret! it is perfectly treatable!

Re: NWR: Thyroid disease
My friend from work had something with her thyroid - not sure if it was hyper- or hypo-. She ended up having the tumor removed and hasn't had to take any medicine. It's actually very common! I see an endocronologist for another reason so I know how you feel! It will all work out!!!

Re: NWR: Thyroid disease
Hi Laura, to answer your question about the thyroid needle biopsy, I had one. The worst part was the anticipation, and then having to lie perfectly still for a few minutes.
I can't say it hurt, really nothing. Please don't worry, it will be over before you know it and you will be fine!
