NWR: tipping salon owner

Hi ladies,

This isn't really wedding related but I know people have asked about tipping owners before.

I've been going to the same hair person for 3 years now. She recently opened her own salon and even though I'm a relatively old customer, she raised her prices for me too--quite a bit. I went today and I tipped her nicely, but then I started to think, hey she's the owner, do I really have to pay so much more than I used to? Do you generally tip the owner or not?

Thanks!

I have always tipped the my hair girl she is the owner and I can't see any legit. reason to not tip her. She is doing the same job as the girl standing next to her and thats the way I see it.

My theory is that yes you should. Especially since you have known her for a while. The owners of salons don't get to pocket all of the money that they charge their clients. They have plenty of expenses to take care of. They deserve a tip as well.

I have been going to my hair stylist for 6 years now. She is wonderful. I plan on tipping her extra for my wedding day because it is a very special day and she will go above and beyond. Besides I value the amount of time she will spend on me.

I have been with my hair dresser for 10 years. He opened his own salon, jacked the prices up on everyone and I still tipped him. He is still doing the same service as the other hair dressers in there......he's just making more!!!
