So FH and I have a DIFFICULT decision to make.... (as if planning a wedding wasn't enough) Right now we rent my parents house out (they live else where) We are paying $1500 + utilities... We had someone renting our 2 bedroom basement apartment to help w/ the rent, and it did, but now FH suggested we move down stairs, pay no rent and let my parents rent the upstairs out... It sounds like a good idea, but going from a WHOLE house to a basement apartment to me sounds kind of 'tough'.. it wouldn't be forever, as we are looking for a new house as we speak, just temporary to save some extra money... We have a 2 year old, so it would be 3 of us in an apartment? Any input?!?! Am I being ridiculous?

Re: NWR-- to rent or not to rent?!
I think ultimately, if it's for a short time, it would definitely help you out a lot in saving both for the wedding and the house. It's definitely going to be a big change but I think if you just focus on the big picture, you will definitely be able to make it work.

sometimes you just have to stick it out. I think it depends on the size and condition of the basement but if thats not a problem then moving in will def save you a lot of money! Believ me, I live in a basement now and I can't wait to get out but I guess u just have to weigh your options and whats more important

I agree with the ladies. It's going to be temporary so just stick it out for a short time. It's really tough right now in the economy so every bit helps with the expenses. My father recently put his house on sale after paying off mortgage for five yrs in order to pay off loans to prevent a foreclosure on the house. It's not easy so you have to do whatever it takes to prepare yourself financially b/c the market has been rough in the past yrs. I wish you the best of luck. Do whatever it takes to save as much as you can right now. Every bit really goes a long way in the end.

IMO, it is worth sacrificing having the space to go rent free. You will be able to save a good amount of money. It;s not forever right?

Definately save up the money and move downstairs... A small place will not kill you (believe me, ive been living in 1 for the past year with DH- a basement as well and HAVE had to pay rent every month), but a bigger place will kill your house fund! You'll find ways to make it work
