You can get tofu in most supermarkets, Stop N Shop would be your best bet though. They have a good slection of tofu, but do you need firm tofu or soft? You don't have to cook it, but it taste better if you do. YOu need to add flavor to it. I don't think its very costly, its not sea food, but its not pasta either.

it's not expensive. def less $ than meat. you can get it in all sorts of firmness. and it takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it with. you can find it in any supermarket. they usually have it near the produce.

OOO - I got so excited seeing this posted as a subject...

you can cook anything with tofu - especially with sauces - the goods thing about it is that it is porous - it absorbs the flavor of anything you cook it with... the best way to cook it with other things is to freeze it first (in the package - dont open it), then take it out and thaw it overnight... open the package, squeeze the heck out of the block - then, it will be good to absorb just about anything - word of advice - drain it like crazy - squeeze all the water out, otherwise it gets mushy...

Any other questions - let me know - I'm a vegan, so i have a good amount of experience with soy in almost any form...

Tofu has little to no taste at all. You have to add things to make it tasty.

You have to cook with it in order for it to taste good - I personally like it cut up in salad, but thats just me!

Thank the Lord I am allergic to Soy. I have an excuse not to be healthy!

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure how healthy soy is anyway if so many people are allergic to it - even though I'm vegan, I don't really eat a lot of soy anymore....

Best thing to do, imo is to press it, and marinate it. You should press it/draini it by putting it on a plate w/lots of paper towels, then more paper towels on top, and then something heavy like cans of soup to press down. You would leave it in the fridge. You can also freeze it too, i heard that was good, before you press.
Then marinate it in a soy sauce, olive oil, garlic marinade, even sesame oil and ginger overnight. Turn it once during the marination process (lol). Then your best bet for making it crunchy is to sautee it!!!!!
