NWR--Trying to find someone in the military..

I dont know how to go about doing this so I figured someone might be able to help me on here..

When I was in college I became really good friends with this guy and it continued for years to come. BUT the last time I spoke to him was almost 3 years ago. He called me 2 weeks before he was leaving to go to Iraq. I think about him every day and I really would like to find him..... CAN anyone help??

What branch of the military was he in?

Where was he stationed before he deployed to Iraq?

Do you know what he did for the military (type of work?)

That'll help narrow it down. There are some searches that can be done military and non-military to find people, but you'll need more info first.

ETA: And I think there's something with the Red Cross that you can have them locate someone - that may be emergency only.

My FH is a US Marine is Iraq now - so I'll ask him if there's any other info that you an use to locate people.

Marine Bases
Quantico Marine Base

Navy Bases
Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base - northwest of Virginia Beach
Norfolk Naval Shipyard - Portsmouth
Norfolk Naval Station
Oceana Naval Air Station - southwest of Virginia Beach
Portsmouth Naval Medical Center
Yorktown Naval Weapons Station - east of Williamsburg

There's a listing of the Navy and Marine bases (since some Navy members can be stationed on Marine bases and vice versa). Most bases have their own website and some offer people searches. They also have enlisted, officer and family support links that can steer you in the right direction of who to contact to find out more info.

Depending on how common his name is, you can try searching on Superpages (the people pages), MySpace, some of the Military connections sites (there's a site specifically for people who want to date military men - you'd be surprised who shows up on there).

If you want to FM his name I could try helping you search - if not, that's cool too. I'm a little bored at work right now so I'm up for a little directed searching.

I second this. I was very surprised to find out that an old friend of mine in the Marines was on myspace from Iraq. I didn't realize they had access to all of that stuff. And he was on quite frequently too. Hope this helps.
