Once again, I am unemployed. As some of you may remember, I had finally landed what I thought was a decent job since moving to Philly. I was wrong. I got a position as the manager of 2 group homes... It turned out to be the most awful job ever. I couldn't even tolerate it long enough to wait til after the wedding. The main reason was b/c I was to be on-call 24 hrs. per day/7 days per week. I explained to my supervisor that my family and friends are in NY and I'm getting married, so on the weekends, I go back there... and even after the wedding, of course I'll go back to visit. He told me that I am not permitted to leave the area on weekends, as I need to be on call at all times. He made me meet him at 1:30 AM, to do firedrills at the houses. He then made me come in at 7AM later that morning. This was on my first two days as manager. There is more, but I won't bore you with allll the details. So here I am, square 1, sending out resumes. I have two interviews next week, Mon and Tue, so far. I have not had a steady job since March, in NY. I start grad school in 11 days... Married in 35 days... why can't this job thing just work out? I am stressed and depressed beyoooond belief. Thanks for reading my vent.

OMG... I just do not understand why some jobs feel that they own you... we work to live not live to work! So sorry! It's is VERY stressful being out of job for so long...cannot imagine what it's like with a wedding coming up.

I worked in group homes for 4 years after undergrad. I've worked for about 3 diff agencies on LI and FI has worked for 3 diff ones on LI. The majority are like what you described but occasionally you'll find an agency that doesn't treat their employees like crap. Many people don't realize that a group home is like a hospital-it never closes so someone has to be there to work (not that I'm condoning what your manager did). FI was a manager in a group home & he would never treat his staff like that but in some agencies it's expected and it's the norm. It's a really difficult job to have. But good luck job hunting and if that's a field you enjoy don't let one bad experience with a lousy agency discourage you. Keep looking and now you know what questions to ask when interviewing! Best of luck!

Im sorry this is happening to you But try not to get so depressed about it because its NOT YOUR FAULT. You have a lot on your plate right now, but things will work out for the best. I know it will!
On a happy note, maybe he was jealous of your hat....

Maybe I shouldn't have worn it on the interview....
Thanks for making me laugh about it.

So not your fault...try to put it in perspective. You have wonderful things happening to you now and in the future. This is just a blip on your radar. Sending hugs...

I was a little worried about you when you described the job. I had a similar one when I was 21 and it was a horror show. I couldn't wait to get out there. I ended up getting one of my favorite jobs after that experience so I KNOW good things are in store for you.
