NWR: Update on 'bed bugs'... may NOT be bed bugs after all!!!
So, I went to the dermatologist yesterday...
turns out what I have on my legs may NOT be bed bugs!
She said they're FLEA BITES, which I really don't think they are since I haven't been around ANY animals. I mentioned this to a coworker this morning, and she asked if I've been upstate lately. Why, YES, I have... for the wedding at Mount Mohonk this past weekend. She said they may be CHIGGER BITES, which SHE had before and which HER dermatologist initially thought were flea bites! I looked it up and it really is the best fit into what these bites look like! It's disgusting to see these little bugs magnified on the internet, and apparently they latch onto you for 1-4 days (I'm gonna yak), but the bite/lesion they cause is what is on my leg! Ewwww! I called my dermatologist to confirm the CHIGGER BITE theory. My FH did sit on a bench for what we thought was a romantic moment for a few minutes... only to realize that the bench was INFESTED with insects. I FLEW off that bench as soon as I realized it!!! EWWWWWWWWWW!!!! Now I'm all itchy again!!
So, now I feel bad that I blamed the hotel I was in, but I least I didn't take it any farther than a phone call letting them know that they may have bed bugs.
I DID learn that the first things people should do when they get in a hotel room is take the bed spread off the bed and put it in a corner and not touch it. NEVER sit on it or put bags on it because hotels apparently don't HAVE to clean the bedspread. Don't use it as a second blanket because they don't wash it!!! It's just decorative, but people who DO use it as a blanket germ it all up! AND if there ARE bed bugs, they'll be on that bed spread! EWWWW! Also, you can buy MITE spray at Bed, Bath and Beyond to bring on trips with you to spray the mattress, just in case, to kill any bed bugs.
Just wanted to share this wonderful education I've been getting this week about Chiggers and Bed Bugs! How wonderful!!!
