NWR - Vacation or not? - UPDATED!!! WooWoo!!!

NWR - Vacation or not? - UPDATED!!! WooWoo!!!

I've got a bit of a rant here and no one is helping me decide what to do. I'm hoping maybe on of you wonderful ladies can help me with this:

I need time off work. I am losing my mind here. I told my boss I am taking the last week in August. He said no problem.

I really wanted to go to the poconos for the week. all together, it will probably cost about $2000 for me and FH to go.

Problem - there is so much stuff I need to do around the house. This week would be ideal to look for a new place to live. it would also be a great time to scope out some vendors I've been meaning to book.

But, I just want to get away from it all. I would love to just go to the poconos, sit by the lake, and get away from it all. If I stay home, there is the possibility I could take day trips to the wineries or our to Captree, but there is a better chance I will sleep til noon and just plop in front of the TV.

I've also been considering getting a photo booth for the wedding, which costs $2000. We can save the money and use it for that. But If I take a bunch of day trips, it'll probably cost about $1000 for the week.

Then again, I am feeling really burned out and have worked my *** off for the past 8 months.

So, I have no idea what to do. I really want to get away. But I feel like there is so much to do. And I could save the money and increase my wedding budget by $2000.

Arrgh, deciding what to do with a week off should not be this stressful. FH is being no help with this. He says 'whatever you want to do', but since he work 10 minutes from the house, I have a feel he will wind up getting suckered into working even though they told him he could take off.

Any suggestions?

UPDATE ON BOTTOM: Hooray and Woohoo!

My personal opinion is: if you are shelling out tons of money on a photographer, why get a photobooth? Yes, pictures will be cute and funny but still. Just get throw away cameras to put on the table. Those pictures come out just as good. Take the vacation. Go to the Poconos. Every bride should have a nice vacay during the planning period.

why not go away for 3 or 4 days and use the rest of the time to clean and book some vendors. plus it'll be cheaper for the 4 days then for a week this way you can still save some of the $.

I would do a half trip also- then I could relax when I got to my vacation spot.

The place I want to go has cheaper rate Sun-Thurs. All inclusive, $250 a night. That's why I would have to go in the middle of the week. It's not worth it to only go for 2 or 3 nights either I found. You barely get time to relax.

And the weekend before and after I have parties to go to. So it pretty much onlt leaves me with free time during the weekdays. Most vendors are hard to get in touch with on weekends because they are either working or taking care of all the other people that only have the weekends to book.

And, I am in love with the photo booth/scrap book idea. I know it's not for everyone, but as soon as I saw it I fell in love with it. FH is excited about it too. We kind of have a thing with photobooths, whenever we see one we take funny photos and we have a collection.

Take a vacation! It sounds like you really need to relax.

I would go on the vacation. Everyone deserves to get away at least for a week. I would go away and forget about all the wedding planning and stress and just relax. You will feel better when you get back. I am going on vacation at the end of this week as well and I know I iwll feel refreshed when I return.

If you can afford it, I would take the vaca to PA

Personally I chose not to go on vacation this year. FH and I are pretty burnt out but we've been taking days off here and there. But we need to save money this year.
If you go to the poconos for half the week at least you'd be going on a mini vacation and you'd be saving your money.

I would do a half week trip. Then you'll feel like you accomplished both things and feel less guilty about only doing 1 thing. A half trip is still a nice time away from everything

I would stay home and save the money so I could have the photobooth. maybe do something local?

Re: NWR - Vacation or not?

I know i wouldn't be able to go on vacation & relax knowing there is a lot of to do & pay for.......plus when you get back from vacation you'll still have to deal w/ the things you didn't get to cause you were on vacation.... JMO..... do whatever is going to make you feel better!!!

Re: NWR - Vacation or not?

where do u plan on staying in the poconos?

we have stayed in bed and breakfasts and it can be very pricy..

y not try staying at a cheap hotel...we've stayed on ones on 611 that were under 100 bucks (as cheap as 59 bucks once) and we were still able to do everything we wanted to do...its soo great up there

Re: NWR - Vacation or not? - UPDATED!!!!

Oh My God!!!

It's like everything just came together for me in the last 24 hours. I am so excited I am bursting!!!

First of all, thank you all for the advice.

Well, when I thought about what I really liked about the photo booth, it was the fact that ppl could get instant photos as a favor, and I could get a scrapbook that night where people could put their photos and write funny messages next to them. I called my DJ and they said that they could do the same thing, using polaroids, for around $500.

About 30 minutes ago my boss gave me a bonus check for the EXACT amount of the vacation I was planning to take. Just, out of the blue, said I was nominated by me project manager and was one of 5 ppl in the company to get it.

I cannot believe it. I really think this is a sign from above that I just need to go on vacation for a week.
