NWR: Vent (sorry, really long)

NWR: Vent (sorry, really long)

Ugh, I am so mad. Ok so FH and I rent a house, we have use of the yard, driveway, garage and most of the basement with laundry. I say most because part of the basement has a small apartment in it that doesn't have use of any of the things listed above. Anywho the tenant who lives downstairs was always smoking out by the backdoor when she first moved in which would come in our kitchen window and even under the door, so I asked the landlord to kindly ask if she could smoke elsewhere. Seeing the backyard is ours anyway and we pay wayyyy more rent then she does the smell bothered me and I felt it was ok to ask. He told her to go smoke in the street and she did for awhile but slowly made her way to the back of our driveway. I mentioned it to FH who just shrugged it off saying its just the driveway but I know if you give people an inch and they usually tend to take a mile. Not to mention when we have the bedroom window open the smoke smell comes in there now instead. Also after being told by the landlord to smoke in the street she started smoking in the house on occasion instead which would come into our house. FH couldn't smell it and thought I was NUTS until one day I left her a note asking her not to smoke in the house because it comes into ours (mind you its a smoke-free rental anyway). She then wrote back and apologized so obviously I wasn't crazy! Now it seems she and her new bf think its ok to use the backyard and our patio furniture. I'm kinda curious when we aren't home if they use our grill too. Am I wrong to be pissed off that the bf, who doesn't live here mind you, is out back right now by our back door sitting on our patio furniture using our table for his laptop smoking a cigarette and she's sitting there right next to him smoking one too? He even moved stuff I had on the chair. I just think its so rude to use other people's stuff like that. I would never, and I have lived in apts in other people's homes before and I was always very respectful. I don't want to say anything because I don't want to be confrontational over patio furniture but ugh!!!

Sorry so long but I needed to vent big time.

I would definitely be pissed.. I'm not sure why your FH isn't more angry than he is. Did he grow up with smokers and is used to it? If it were me, I'd put up a big 'No Smoking' sign on your patio, or a smaller sign on the table.

no, FH works nights so he is never home when she is. He is home sleeping during the day and she is at work so they miss each other. I get to listen to the back door open and close about 30 times a night constantly while they go out to smoke. It gets annoying and its obvious they are using the furniture, I can see the glow from his laptop through my kitchen window from across the room.

If I were you I would be pissed. She should be more respectful of you and your things. I hate it when stuff like this happens and it makes it uncomfortable for you to live with that person.

is there any chance you are moving soon? I would think this behavior wont end, since she has been told about the smoking portion before and has not listened.

People suck.
