there's a very long drawn out story behind this but i dont want to air their dirty laundry.
my question is, if the FILs starting really fighting (war of words but fists) hard do you handle it? try to help resolve it? ignore it?
FH's uncle and his cousin-in-law (uncle's son-in-law) got into a huge fight on christmas eve. most of us stayed out of it. let them resolve it as best as they could. others were being 'yentas' and gossiping with each other 'what did he say' etc. etc.
not being 'family' yet, i just helped clean up dinner and set up dessert.
m the most uncomfortable person when it comes to people fighting around me. at one point i actually felt myself fighting back tears. sappy i know.

Re: NWR: VENTing: FILs fighting
first some hugs
i think if i were in that situation i would just stay out of it..honestly even if it were my family bc no matter what u might say to them i doubt it would help whatever issue they are having..and u dont want to take sides and have one of them get mad at u even though u werent involved..id let them work out there own issues for the time being..if u want to talk to them afterwards or alone if u think it would help, that would be nice..but during the fight id stay out of it

I think you did the right think by staying busy with cleaning up and dessert. I would have stayed out of it. Only because it is not 'my family' so to speak. I wouldnt want to be seen as the instigator or the one who wants to know the gossip.
